MEET LAUREN

Hi, I’m Lauren. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) dedicated to supporting children, youth, adults, and couples in the Nanaimo community. My practice is rooted in the belief that many of the struggles we face from anxiety and trauma symptoms to relationship cycles, are actually our nervous system’s way of trying to protect us.

Many clients come to me for counselling in Nanaimo feeling stuck in patterns they don’t fully understand. You might experience intense emotional reactions, persistent worry, or a sense that your body stays on "high alert" even when you want to feel calm. In our sessions, I see these not as flaws, but as protective adaptations. Together, we work to slow things down, gently making sense of these patterns to create a new sense of safety and choice.

To support deep healing, I integrate EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) into my practice. As a trauma-informed counsellor, I use this evidence-based approach to help the brain process difficult memories so they no longer feel so present or overwhelming. This is particularly effective for those navigating attachment wounds, chronic anxiety, or lingering distress from past experiences.

When providing counselling for children and youth, I offer developmentally supportive care focused on emotional regulation and behavioral concerns. I believe in working collaboratively with caregivers whenever helpful, fostering the connections that help young people feel safer in their bodies and their relationships.

In my work with adults and couples, I help clients navigate relational patterns and communication cycles. We explore how past experiences shape present reactions, practicing new ways of responding that feel steady and intentional. I also have specialized experience supporting individuals living with brain injuries and cognitive changes. I understand how neurological challenges can impact identity and relationships, and I provide a patient, paced approach that respects each person’s unique capacity.

Across all ages, my goal is to provide a counselling space that is calm, collaborative, and compassionate, a place where you don’t have to "perform" or have everything figured out before you arrive. If you are seeking trauma-informed counselling for yourself, your child, or your relationship in British Columbia, I would be honoured to support you on your journey toward wellness.
